What are Chapters?
Chapters are local or regional groups affiliated with the Michigan Association for Gifted Children (download current Chapter List). Chapters can be associated with a school building, a school district, a city, or a larger geographic area. The Chapter works to determine the needs of its members; the Michigan Association for Gifted Children helps the Chapter meet those needs – be they in advocacy, information, or events. Chapters are also sometimes called “Affiliates.”
How do we form a Chapter?
Begin by contacting your Regional Representative (download Regional Info.pdf) or the Vice President for Affiliates (Marie Brucker, m.brucker@comcast.net, 810-227-5379) regarding your thoughts or plans for forming a Chapter. You will also want to review the procedures for affiliation (pdf below) and the information from the Chapter Handbook (download Chapter Handbook.pdf - Chapters were formerly called “Affiliates” and this PDF uses that terminology throughout.). This Handbook will provide many suggestions for you as a group, including issues such as bylaws, membership, and activities. Once you’ve made the decision to organize formally, download the required three forms, complete and mail with any required fees to the Michigan Association for Gifted Children at the address listed below. Renewing Chapters
Each June, current chapters need to renew their affiliation with the Michigan Association for Gifted Children as part of our agreement with the federal government. These three forms (listed above) are required for us to have in hand to complete the MI Alliance report to the IRS.
