We are excited to announce the availability of the introductory online professional development course in the new series, “ Understanding and Supporting Gifted Learners (USGL). This series introduces educators to the gifted learner and their characteristics, and discusses the academic and social-emotional needs that impact their educational experience and growth. This is the foundational course in the USGL series, which prepares educators for subsequent topics to be addressed as the series continues. The courses in this series will explore the gifted learners’ social/emotional characteristics, underrepresentation of non-dominant cultures, underachievement of gifted students, twice-exceptional learners, instructional strategies, academic acceleration options, and identification and instruction through data-driven analysis. The free 15-minute introductory course gives .25 SCECHs. The first full length (60 minute) module, “Social-Emotional Needs of Gifted Students,” is scheduled to be available next month and will give 1 SCECH. Contact EDUPaths@gomaisa.org with any questions.
